TCA National Lowe’s Award Nominees

TCA is pleased to announce that THREE FORMER TCA PLAYERS have been selected as National Lowe’s Award Nominees.   (Lane Carico of University of Miami, Stacey Schmidt of UC Santa Barbara, and Kendall Bateman of USC.)   Only 30 seniors nationwide were selected for this national award that honors student athletes for their achievements in the classroom, for their  upstanding character, for dedication to their communities, and for their competitiveness on the court.   TCA works on developing the Complete Athlete on and off the court, and these three young ladies have made our club very proud.

Classroom
Carico is an Exercise Physiology major with a Psychology minor. Her cumulative GPA is a 3.553. She made the Dean’s List four times for a 3.5 GPA or better. She has also been named to the Provost’s Honor Roll for a 3.75 GPA and the President’s Honor Roll for a perfect 4.0. In the University of Miami Athletic Department, she has made the Athletic Director Honor Roll and Book Buster List five times. In 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 Carico was named to the ACC Honor Roll and she is also a two-time All-ACC Academic Team member (2008-09)

Character
Carico’s athletic accomplishments and academic accolades speak for themselves.  What does not appear on a resume or transcript, however, are the character traits that make her exceptional. She holds herself to a very high standard and is steadfast in her focus and determination to meet and exceed those standards.  Carico is mature beyond her years and seems to pride herself on making sound decisions based on her values system. She is well-rounded, kind and easy going.

Community
Carico has participated in Habitat for Humanity events during her collegiate career. For three years, she has been involved in Dig Pink, a breast cancer awareness event and 3 years of Women and Girls in Sport Day (clinic and interaction).

Competition
Carico is the first player in school history to register 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career and is the school’s first AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) All-American. She is a 2010 AVCA Third Team All-American. In 2010; she also made the All-ACC team and the COBRA Magazine Atlantic South All-Region Team. In 2009, Carico made the All-ACC Second Team. During 2008, Carico made the All-ACC Freshmen team; she was the ACC Freshman of the Year, and the AVCA East Region Freshman of the Year. She earned AVCA All-America honorable mention during 2008 and 2009 and she is also a three time AVCA All-East Region team member. On October 6, 2009, Carico was named the CVU.com national player of the week.
