Chris Stoner

Before moving to Atlanta eight years ago, I lived in Florida, Colorado and Lancaster, PA, and no, I’m not Amish.

I live in Duluth with my cats, Chloe and Cairo and dogs, Doofas (he’s deaf so I can call him whatever I want, it doesn’t matter) and Zoey. During the day I work as sales representative for MHC Truck Leasing. In my spare time I like to hit the gym, go to a Braves game or watch football. I’ve been playing volleyball for 30 years.

I started playing on my dad’s recreational team and never stopped. Back then you could only score a point if you were serving, you couldn’t hit the net with the serve, you had to forearm pass the serves and no one ever heard of a libero.

Officially my coaching career began in 1992 when I went from coaching my college club men’s team to coaching the schools NCAA II women’s team.  Since then I’ve coached anyone from high level college athletes to six and seven year olds just learning how to play. I’m willing to coach anyone who will listen and is willing to try.

This is my 3rd year with TCA, and 2nd as Assistant Director.  I also am a community coach for Northview High School where I coach the varsity team. While not teaching club or high school, I teach adults how to play sand volleyball.

I attended the USAV’s Coaching Accreditation Program Level I in 1992 and then in the summer of 1993 I want to CAP II.  In 1993 I taught a college course on “the science of coaching and techniques of officiating volleyball”.  Over the years I’ve come to realize the best part of coaching isn’t necessarily having the best team or winning (although those are nice), it’s seeing the “aha” look on a player’s face when he or she finally “gets it”. I want to pass along my passion and love for volleyball. That’s why I coach.
